Clinical Services

IUPUI Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides:

  • Group Counseling
  • Individual Counseling
  • Relationship Counseling
  • Crisis Intervention*
  • Evaluation and Assessment Services
  • Psychiatric Medication Management Services

Please note, IUPUI-CAPS does not provide after-hours crisis management. Click here for specific crisis information.


Counseling services are designed to assist students with a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:

  •         Anxiety/Phobias
  •          Depression
  •          Eating Concerns
  •          Grief/Loss
  •          Mood Changes
  •         Relationship Problems
  •          Stress & Time Management
  •          Test Anxiety
  •          Trauma/Recovery


CAPS also provides evaluation and assessment for:

  • Learning Disorders
  • Attention Problems (ADHD or ADD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Substance Abuse (CAPS does NOT perform court-ordered assessment or treatment)


CAPS staff includes licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, post-doctoral fellow(s), and graduate students from a variety of mental health training programs. Graduate students receive individual and group supervision by licensed senior staff.

Psychiatric Services are provided through contract with an independent licensed psychiatrist.

IUPUI CAPS reserves the right to refer individuals to other mental health care providers for concerns that are beyond the scope of practice at this facility.

Faculty and staff services are provided by the IU Employee Assistance Program.
