Student Advocacy and Support
Meet the student advocate
The student advocate:
- Guides students in resolving educational, personal, and other barriers toward successful completion of their academic goals
- Links students with appropriate university and community resources, and collaborates with faculty and staff to assist with addressing student concerns
- Serves all students—undergraduate, graduate, and professional
- A centralized source of information and referrals for students, family members, faculty, and staff
- Empowers students to advocate for themsevles
Services at-a-glance:
- Assist with emergencies that impact a student’s educational experience
- Help students understand and navigate university policies and procedures
- Connect students with campus and community resources
- Provide information pertaining to emergency loans/grants to help students remain enrolled
- Provide support in the event of a student’s major illness/injury
- Serves as a consultant to faculty/staff who have concerns or need assistance in supporting students
The student advocate provides a safe and comfortable environment to discuss complaints, concerns, or problems. If a matter cannot be addressed through our office, a referral will be made. The student advocate does not replace or substitute for formal grievance or appeal processes made available by the university.
