Great expectations lead to great rewards

We hope that you’ll put as much passion into advising your students as they put into running their organization. Here are some of the basic expectations for our advisors.

  • Provide support, consistency, and advice to student organizations. This might include being familiar with the goals and activities of the student organization and helping it locate and take advantage of available resources. You are not expected to supervise the organization’s activities.
  • Be aware of all contractual agreements involving your student organization. However, you are not to sign any agreements on the organization’s behalf.
  • Serve as the student organization’s Campus Security Authority.
  • Assist the organization with abiding by all IU, IUPUI, and Campus Center and Student Experiences policies and procedures.

Additional expectations and resources for faculty and staff advisors are available in The Spot.

If it’s happening in a student organization, it’s happening in The Spot

The Spot is an online gathering place for student organizations. You might also hear your students talking about Corq, the site’s mobile app. It’s where they conduct business like submitting events, maintaining rosters, and completing a variety of administrative requests. It’s where they promote their events and meetings. It’s how they connect with other organizations. Even students who aren’t in positions of leadership use The Spot to learn about active student organizations and discover how to find their spot on campus.

The Spot is also home to many of the resources we make available just for advisors. You can indicate your interest in becoming an advisor via The Spot as well.
