Peer Health Educators host Sexual Responsibility Week on campus

Don’t spend your time in the dark when it comes to your sexual health and well-being -- unless you’re attending Sex in the Dark during Sexual Responsibility Week at IUPUI.

This week of events is about increasing awareness of comprehensive, holistic sexual health, focusing on pleasure, protection and permission. Students will walk away with a toolkit of healthy behaviors when it comes to healthy relationships and sexual practices.

“Our goal with Sexual Responsibility Week is to help students better identify the resources on campus that provide information about positive sexual health and to open the conversation about what positive sexual health looks like for them individually,” said Hannah Putnam, graduate assistant in Health and Wellness Promotion.

With five different events over the next week, students can engage in a variety of topics and conversations to help them learn more.

Know Your Status

11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6 in the Campus Center Atrium

Free STI, HIV, pregnancy, and wellness testing and screenings will be available for students.

I Do or Donut Have Sex!

11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12 in Taylor Hall 101

Let’s discuss healthy relationships -- no matter the status. Free donuts, condoms, conversations and resources will be available to support your responsible choice of sexual well-being, which includes abstinence.

The Art of Swiping Right

11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Campus Center Atrium

OkCupid, it’s time to explore your boundaries of the digital world. Grab a Friendsy, and “swipe right” on over to this event to engage in some fun, safe and responsible ways around Tinder love and care. You may leave with a match that best fits you.

Sex in the Dark

6 – 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 in Taylor Hall 101

Increase your confidence around having discussions about sexual choices and cast your anonymous questions and submissions. The experts will be there to provide the facts. Free testing will also be available.

Random Acts of Kindness

All day on Saturday, Feb. 15

Be kind to yourself and others, and Happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate.

Throughout the week, Condom Club training will be provided for free, and the Democracy Plaza Wall on Level 1 of the Campus Center will have questions for you to share your thoughts on social issues surrounding sexual responsibility and well-being.

Sexual Responsibility Week is hosted and organized by IUPUI's Peer Health Educators. For more information and to continue the conversation, follow Health and Wellness Promotion on Twitter and Instagram, or stop in their office suite in Campus Center 350.
