IUPUI announces 2020 Student Organization Awards

Another year has come and gone at IUPUI, which means it’s time for a new edition of the Student Organization Awards. This year, 51 awards were given to leaders across the IUPUI campus.

The 2020 Student Organization Awards are an opportunity to celebrate and recognize students and advisors, student organization programs and registered student organizations that have made a significant impact on the social, interpersonal and professional development of students as well as major contributions to IUPUI.

With more than 500 registered student organizations, 6,000 events held each year and 11,000 members of the student organization community, the impact on campus and in our community is immeasurable.

These awards were established to highlight the contributions of and impact of registered student organizations at IUPUI.

Outstanding Campus Program of the Year: Student Activities Programming Board, First Night

Outstanding Collaborative Program of the Year: Underrepresented Professional and Graduate Student Organization, Midday Mentoring Dialogues. Collaboration with IUPUI Graduate Mentoring Center.

Outstanding Educational Program of the Year: IDEA Fellows, Open-Innovation Sprint

Outstanding Philanthropic Program of the Year: Delta Sigma Phi, Queen of the Nile

Advocacy Leadership Award: Sha-Nel Henderson, Black Student Union

Distinguished Graduate Student Leader Award: Hanna Tso, Ophthalmology Student Interest Group

Distinguished Undergraduate Leader Award: Mariam Sylla, Undergraduate Student Government and African Student Association

First Year Student Involvement Award: Emily Wolf, Ball Hall Council, Residence Hall Association, Delta Sigma Pi.

Panhellenic Woman of the Year: Karly Van Slyke, Zeta Tau Alpha

Rising Star Award: Lifan Fan, Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group (WMSIG)

Student Leadership Award: Nidhi Ramanathan, Kriya at IUPUI, Kelley Indianapolis Cares, and Model United Nations.

USG Committee Hopper of the Year: Benjamin Passey

USG Legislative Author of the Year: Riley Smith

USG Verbal Ambassador of the Year: Jacob Shircliff

Unsung Hero Award: Serena Srun Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority Incorporated, Badminton, Vietnamese Student Association, Asian Student Union.

Values in Action Award: Abigail Mendoza, Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority Inc.

Visionary Leadership Award: Natalie Mendez Sigma Psi Zeta, Multicultural Greek Council, and Xiphos Corps.

Student Organization Advisor Awards

These awards were established to highlight the importance of student organization advising by recognizing and rewarding outstanding advisors who voluntarily commit to assisting student organizations with reaching their full potential. An advisor's commitment to a student organization is usually above and beyond their job responsibilities to the university. As such, we wish to honor individuals who not only dedicate themselves, but also surpass the requirements of those student organizations they serve.
