CAPS to host Coping 101 workshops on Wednesdays

By:

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at IUPUI will offer Coping 101 workshops each Wednesday from May 20 through the end of August. Each workshop focuses on a different topic with the goal of increasing coping strategies.

The topics and dates are listed below.

  • Dealing with stress (June 17, July 22, August 26)
  • Self-compassion (May 20, June 24, July 29)
  • Establishing boundaries (May 27, June 31, August 5)
  • Managing emotions (June 3, July 8, August 12)
  • Managing thoughts (June 10, July 15, August 19)

“Given the current times, I believe that these workshops will help by giving participants new and healthy coping tools, strengthen previous coping tools and/or fill in gaps in their coping tool box,” said Yves Ambroise, assistant director for outreach and community services at CAPS.

“During this period of adjustment, a lot of us are particularly hard on ourselves and even dismissive of the wide range of emotions – sadness, nervousness, grief, or anger – we’re experiencing,” Ambroise said. “The self-compassion session will offer strategies at relating to our internal voice – that can be harsh at times – with one that is more kind, validating and accepting of the human experience.”
