Get To Know: Kailey Rigdon, Student Conduct Investigator

By:

Kailey Rigdon currently serves as the student conduct investigator in the Division of Student Affairs. In this role, she is the lead contact to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct under the Indiana University Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Rigdon joined the Office of Student Conduct in March 2020. Prior to her time at IUPUI, she worked as the Title IX Coordinator for Kentucky Christian University while obtaining her master's degree in human resource management. She also worked as a graduate assistant for the Women's and Gender Center at Marshall University from August 2018 to December 2019.

As one of the newest members of the division, Rigdon has hardly set foot on campus, but she's still found a way to make an impact.

What's been your impression of IUPUI and the Division of Student Affairs since you arrived?

Everyone I've met at IUPUI and in DoSA have been incredible to say the least! My coworkers in the Office of Student Conduct have made this unique transition effortless and as smooth as possible for me. The first couple of weeks that I started working, I had people within the department welcoming me with open arms and taking the time to get to know me.

How many people in the division have you actually met face-to-face? How has it been working several months without going to campus?

The only people I've met in person have been the people that interviewed me, so just my coworkers and the team in the Office of Student Advocacy and Support. Starting this new job completely online has been unique to say the least, but everyone made it feel like the new normal right off the bat. Everyone on the student conduct team has been so helpful and patient as I try to get in the groove of things.

What have been your hobbies during this work from home period?

During this work from home period, I've been able to give my dog all the attention he demands, so he's been loving that. I've also been able to finally read the books I was so excited to purchase only for them to sit on a shelf for way too long.

What has been the most exciting part about moving to Indianapolis?

When I came to Indianapolis for my on-campus interview, I fell in love with it right away. However, once COVID hit and quarantine took over, that definitely changed my plans. I just recently moved permanently to Indy, and I can't wait to go out and explore all it has to offer!

What is the best part about working in student conduct?

I'd say the best part about working in student conduct is seeing the growth that students have throughout our process. I never went into this field looking to simply punish students for their mistakes, but rather to help them grow as individuals and become better people.

If you had one last meal on this earth what would it be?

I think my final meal would have to be shrimp and grits. I was born in Georgia, so that's definitely a staple food that I've loved all my life.

What television shows have you watched recently?

I recently watched The Office for about the eighth time. I also just finished watching Warrior Nun and Pose, and I highly recommend both of those.
