Delta Zeta

Quotes provided by Cami Murphy, vice president of philanthropy

Why is philanthropy important to your organization?
Philanthropy is incredibly important to our organization as it is part of our foundation! Many women going through recruitment end up joining DZ because they have a personal tie, connection or are interested in making a difference with our philanthropy that supports speech and hearing. We have one major fundraiser each semester to help spread awareness and raise money for our philanthropic partners, which include The Starkey Hearing Foundation, SeriousFun Children's Network and The American Society for Deaf Children.

What is a fun memory from one of your philanthropy events last fall?
Our last in-person event in the fall was DZ Lip-Sync. Since it’s a competition, teams have a great time coming up with the song they will use and creating a routine. Each team was having a blast not only supporting each other, but competing to get some money raised for their own philanthropies. It was such a fun event to be a part of, as the spirit was incredibly high!

What are your philanthropy goals for 2022?
Our fundraising goal for the spring semester is $2,500!

Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority, Inc.

Quotes provided by Kassandra Mejia, philanthropy director

Why is service important to your organization?
Community service is important to us because we strive to empower and serve women. We’re all aware that minorities are victims of domestic violence, and we want to support survivors.

What is a fun memory from one of your service events last fall?
Last semester, we hosted a mini week of events in October to raise money for domestic violence survivors. A big hit was our Campout for Domestic Violence. We got a lot of support from faculty and students to raise money for our cause. It was also great to see our sisters come together for this event!

What are your service goals for 2022?
To bring more awareness to different parts of the community. We also want to continue creating events that unite faculty and students together for the common goal of supporting survivors.

Alpha Chi Omega

Quotes provided by Gia Immerfall, vice president of philanthropy

Why is philanthropy important to your organization?
Philanthropy is paramount to the workings of Alpha Chi Omega, as we pride ourselves on being extremely in-tune and connected to all that we do to combat domestic violence. Our sisterhood is time and time again enlightened and grounded by our activities connected to domestic violence awareness – making us all so much closer to not only each other, but the community as well.

What is a fun memory from one of your philanthropy events last fall?
Personally, one of my greatest memories since becoming a member of Alpha Chi was our annual Volley Against Violence. This event not only gave us an opportunity to use our platform to raise money for our local women's shelter – Coburn Place – but to also let loose and have some fun!

What are your philanthropy goals for 2022?
Our chapter goals for philanthropy are to raise more awareness for the multiple activities and movements we partake in – Denim Day, Healthy Relationships Week and Donut Let Love Hurt – and support the Coburn Place as a chapter by raising more funds to better the environment of their shelter.

Alpha Sigma Alpha

Quotes provided by Caitlyn Mongosa, service and charitable giving

Why is philanthropy important to your organization?
Philanthropy is important to our organization because we can work closely with and fundraise for various organizations whose impact creates many opportunities to the communities they work with. By supporting these organizations, we’re able to benefit in some of the values we hold dear to our sorority, like growth, relationships and generosity.

What is a fun memory from one of your philanthropy events last fall?
One of our fall events is attending the Girls on the Run Marathon. Prior to the event, we got to color the girls’ hair with temporary dye and give them GOTR temporary tattoos. The best part was seeing all of the family members who were there to support them by also running the marathon or dying their hair, too. It showed us how much of an impact GOTR had on the community and how special it was to be a part of that impact.

What are your philanthropy goals for 2022?
One goal we have for this semester is to have girls attend every FSL event. That includes not just the panhellenic community, but also the MCGC community. We all have different values and reasons for joining our specific organization, but we are all here to support each other and the philanthropies we give our hearts to.
