Student organizations bring change to IUPUI

By:

Making strides on campus, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) and Residence Hall Association (RHA) have made efforts to bring new programs and products to campus to improve the student experience.

See what these three student organizations have accomplished this year as they seek to implement change on campus, create opportunities for outreach and bring the student body together.

Undergraduate Student Government

USG continues to honor its mission of being a voice for students within administration and creating new projects to promote growth within the community.

Making health products more accessible

USG collaborated with Health and Wellness Promotion, Auxiliary Services, Campus Health and more to install a pharmacy vending machine to increase inclusivity on IUPUI's campus by offering over-the-counter medications and several other products at a low cost. The vending machine is located on the Lower Level of the Campus Center across from the Game Room.

Safety and sustainability

Last fall, USG began distributing Birdie personal safety alarm devices in an effort to improve safety on campus. These devices aim to deter instances of sexual misconduct and other unsafe situations by making a deafening sound to gain the attention of bystanders. Throughout this semester, Birdies continued to be given out to students.

USG is currently delivering its last batch of Brita water filters to students living on campus. This initiative was introduced last year in the Senate and then implemented this fall as a way to bring better accessibility to clean drinking water

In an effort to eliminate excessive waste on campus, USG is also distributing tote bags to students to help support sustainability.

Celebrating campus leadership and diversity

This semester, USG hosted its second annual Leadership Conference to help support student leaders and also hosted its second annual Unity Brunch in early December to encourage collaboration between different cultural organizations on campus.

In the spring, USG will run the second annual Student Organization Awards to celebrate and recognize thriving leaders, programs and clubs.

Graduate and Professional Student Government

GPSG prides itself on being an advocate for IUPUI's professional and graduate students. This student org plans events that aim to increase awareness within the graduate student body, while also providing resources specialized to the academic pathways of graduate students.

A focus on wellness

GPSG has set a priority on wellness for the 2023–24 academic year. The members hosted a Financial Wellness Series to educate students on credit building, investments and budgeting.

In an effort to encourage social and physical wellness among students, GPSG distributed complimentary baseball tickets and organized a Latin Night for students to participate in.

Remaining consistent with GPSG's commitment to academic advancement, the Graduate and Professional Education Grant continued providing financial support to graduate students traveling to events for professional development and research.

Residence Hall Association

RHA dedicates itself to creating and organizing events for students living on campus so these residents are informed and have the resources to succeed. RHA events encourage students to create better habits sustainably, gain knowledge about life on campus and to meet new people.

Bringing residents together

This year, RHA hosted a variety of events to bring community, awareness and knowledge to residents. Student favorites include: Breakfast and Bingo, S'mores and Oars, Cultural Heritage Month Movie Night, Hype Up Hygiene, Ball-o-ween for Halloween and Sustain-a-Game.
