Preparing for Move-in

Moving in early

We can accommodate pre-approved campus groups to move in early, such as athletics teams or orientation leaders. If you’re a member of a group like this, please contact your coach, advisor, or leader for additional instructions. On your group’s move-in day, please go to your residence hall front desk to check in.

We are unable to accommodate individual early move-in requests. If you have an extenuating circumstance or emergency, please contact us at reslife@iu.edu.

Rent your micro-fridge

Residents in University Tower, North Hall, and Ball Hall can rent micro-fridges for their rooms for the 2024-25 academic year. No more worries about burning popcorn or waterless ramen as these micro-fridges also come with a smoke detector that turns off the microwave at the first sign of smoke.

This new residence hall feature allows each roommate to split the cost of a microwave and fridge for one unit price. Students who order by Aug. 1 will have their micro-fridge in their room before they arrive on campus for move-in. Visit Campus Fridges, Etc. website or view their information below.

It’s move-in day!

Bridge Week/first-year students moving in during a regular move-in day (not early arrival) should arrive at the Campus Center at the time you selected. For example, if you selected a move-in time of 8:30 a.m., you should be at the Campus Center by 8:30 a.m. If you arrive earlier than your move-in time, you may be asked to wait.

Parking is free in surface lot 80 ONLY during check-in. If you park in any of the garages for a fee, you will not be reimbursed.

Instructions for move-in by hall and what to bring

Each hall has a different move-in process, as they are in different areas of campus. We’ll have signage up along all the roads on campus for you to follow, but we’ve included instructions here, too.

We will provide big carts for you to move your items in in fewer trips, but you might find a dolly or fold-up wagon/cart of your own to prove useful. Additionally, all rooms are deep cleaned upon students moving out in the spring or summer. Rooms that haven’t been in use since the previous spring might need a light dusting. If you find you need to clean more than this, please find a staff member in your hall and alert them.
